Just a rough little demonstration of the crop on the RED EPIC and therefore applicable to the Scarlet. All shot at exactly same spot with same 50mm lens.
The Epic can record up to 96 FPS in full frame 5K (which is slightly larger than S35), as in using the whole sensor and at a 2.4:1 crop of that up to 120FPS. To get higher FPS you need to drop to 2k.
The highest resolution the Scarlet can do 24p in is the 4K crop, It can do up to 48FPS in 3K (not shown), 60p in 2k and 120FPS in 1K which I have guestimated here.
When underexposed as I am on this shot here, noise in the 2K crop is substantial. When using spot on exposure is essential.

So this is pretty much my daily routine at the moment…
- 11am: Wake up; pissed off that I’ve slept through my alarm, and the entire morning…- 12pm: Freshly showered & out of bed, I feed cats. And feed myself.
- 12.30pm: Turn on computer. Figure out exactly which client is pissed off with…
Sounds familiar!
I shot this timelapse as part of the production of 51 Degrees, an independent feature film directed by Greg Richters, due for release in 2012.
This was an incredibly eventful day in the production of this movie. We knew the plan - for a production crew of about 20 people to scale this building at night, with cameras, lighting gear, an electricity generator and lot’s or red bull! However this soon proved to be more difficult than first envisioned.
The building itself has been derelict since Easter 2007. It’s being re-developed in 2012 but currently is locked/boarded-up, lifts unoperable and under constant watch by the security patrol and CCTV cameras. Getting to the top is no easy task and required ladders, avoiding cameras, climbing round the edge of the building into an open window not to mention climbing 30 stories in pitch-black darkness.
Our first attempt to scale the building failed and resulted in anti-terrorism police being called out. At that point it seriously looked unlikely we would make it up. With spirits deflated we returned to the production office, days of planning looked in vain.
Our only chance we decided was to shed most of our gear, taking only the essential items, and for only 3 of us to go instead of 20. We waited 3 hours to return knowing this would be our last chance.
Climbing the building was an experience in itself, an hour and half of climbing stairs - trying to find the right way to the top, but the effort was rewarded by what some say is the best view in London - seen by precious few.

As part of an event taking place in The Natural History Museum recently, this shot was intended to show the room being set-up for the evening.
The image sequence contains roughly 650 images taken at 5 second intervals.

A short film I shot and edited for Vivida.
It was filmed with 3 Canon 5D MKII’s, a Hero GoPro and a variety of Canon lenses.
It was my first project completed in FCP X which, after some initial teething problems with the new interface and controls, gave me something I was pretty happy with.

victoriaaravindhan asked: For your trip to mumbai what camera did you use?
Hi Victoria,
Some pictures I took using a Canon 400D with a 24-70mm f/2.8 L lens (one of the best Canon lens) but most of the time I was using a 5D with either the same lens or the 35mm f/1.4 L.
The 400D is my own but I use 5D’s at work so when we were not working I could use them for my photos.
We’ve switched to 5D MK II now which has the ability to shoot video and also is less noisy at higher ISO’s
hope that helps!
James

This was taken with my old Nikon F55, my first SLR camera. All the techniques I learnt early on were with this camera. Sadly it was stolen in Barcelona last year…
